[BDSM-LegalIssues] Re: New book -- good but disturbing

Hi all,

I heard back from my privacy rights attorney friend, and it turns out
that she was already very well of this situation. (Big surprise, I
know.)

Apparently, corporations use "data brokers" such as Choicepoint to do
background checks on prospective employers. Also, apparently NCIC
info can be accessed under certain circumstances. Further,
apparently the DoJ, which maintains NCIC, is under no obligation to
ensure that the data it contains is accurate, which means that an
employee can lose/not get their job due to *false* info in NCIC, with
no recourse.

For more info, see this link: http://epic.org/privacy/

In particular, check out the material under the links for
Choicepoint, NCIC, and Fair Credit Reporting Act.

And have a happy holiday despite it all. <G>

Best,

Jay

p.s. Please let me re-recommend the book "Arrest-proof Yourself" by
Dale Carson. It's fairly widely available, only costs 15 bucks, and
is loaded with highly useful, highly candid info.
