[BDSM-LegalIssues] telling evil abusers from consensual practictioners ( was Re: PEOPLE!)
Thank you.
I do wish we could get more places to recognize consent. I hate being
told I'm a criminal for living my life.
I do understand why police officers have a hard time telling play from
a potential dangerous situation. The Denver Sanctuary used to have a
wonderful article on it's website explaining things from the police
officers' points of view. I'm not sure if it's still up, but it was a
very good read. Right now police do lack a real way to tell abusive
situations from consensual scenes and that is a real problem for
everyone.
It may just be me, and it's fine if it is, but I have always thought
being able to prove consent was another good reason for using a safe
word. I would think that would be a very simple way to tell; separate
the parties involved and simply ask "what was the safe word?" If the
answers match, you have proof of planning and consent.
Perhaps the idea falls apart, but at least it's a starting point.
