Those special "protections" enjoyed by corporations are largely in the area of financial protections so the "owners" do not lose everything if the business goes south.

We are having this discussion in part because an employer is 1 or a
group of people
therefore has the same rights as any other group of people (Or should
have. See Amendment I U.S.Constitution concerning freedom of association)
Now Corporations are legal entities and have somewhat convoluted
rights and restrictions based
in part on the special protections a corporation provides to the
group of people in the corporation.
