Yup. But sadly not guaranteed a job...

Sure... But even with a conviction (however solid you find that), the bias
remains -- just read Master Daniel's experience.
And like it or not, most arrests are based on _something_.

Ah, well, polygraphs work on the principle of encouraging people to confess
to the examiner on the basis that the machine can somehow tell that they're
hiding something.
They don't actually do anything more than that.
Handy hint: under NO circumstances volunteer to take a polygraph exam,
because they are a complete sham. Is that my opinion? No. It's the
opinion of the Defense Polygraph Institute, who are the only government
training school for the things. What a polygraph does is achieve precisely
the same dynamic as the school principal summoning a group of kids to the
office and demanding that they confess because he knows they did it, and
things will go worse for them if they don't confess.
No more, no less.
The Magic 8 Ball would do just as good a job, but it's less intimidating.
(Yeah, I've taken a couple of polygraphs, but it was for a clearance thing,
and mandatory. The examiner kept getting cranky when I answered his
questions truthfully, such as "Q: have you seen a doctor in the past 7
days?" Me: "Yes". Him: "What for?" Me: "A drink. It was a social
thing".)
